One of the awesome parts of my job is that I get to implement great ideas that are useful, practical, and can make a big difference in a small way. These personal neighborhood libraries are a great example of this! These little libraries can be found in neighborhoods all over the city. They are cute, functional, and the books inside are absolutely free for the taking! This one, located in the Mt. Baker neighborhood, matches the craftsman style house of the client. We also installed sweet little pavers made from broken up glass from the client's dishware collection. And, we installed a bench so that the neighbors who came to take a book could sit down and enjoy the library without feeling rushed.
What is great about these libraries is how it spurs community involvement at a neighborhood level. Leave a book, take a book. These little libraries also help reclaim public space in parking strips by creating something entirely creative and useful! Would you like one for your neighborhood? We can design and build a lending library to meet the needs of your neighborhood and your house. Contact us today! |
