What is a cistern?
A cistern is a large above-ground container used to collect water from your roof. Essentially a huge rain barrel, cisterns can store hundreds of gallons of water. During the stormy season, cisterns collect rain from rooftops and reduce the amount of water entering into the sewer system. Then, when summer rolls around, this water can be used for watering gardens and can even be used to irrigate your yard. As seen in our photos below, cisterns come in many shapes, sizes and designs and can be utilized in a variety of different situations. Visit our portfolio to see more examples of cisterns Stone Soup has installed.
What are greywater systems?
Greywater is gently-used water generated from households. Sources include sinks, showers or baths, dishwashers, and washing machines. While this water may seem slightly dirty, it is a wonderful and viable (even nutritious!) source of irrigation water for your yard! The installation of a greywater system on your property saves water, saves you money on your water bill, and keeps water out of the sewer or septic system, reducing the chance that pollutants from your household will reach local waterways. Reusing greywater to irrigate your yard reconnects you to the nature that surrounds you and keeps you connected to the natural water cycle.
